Annada Ekadashi 5th September...

On 5th September (Sunday) is
Annada Ekadashi
Please have your last grain meal on Saturday night.
The times to break your fast with grains is on Monday morning Between 06h05 – 09h58 (Durban)
Fasting on Ekadashi (comes twice a month). One should not consume any grains or meat on this day. Lord Krishna says that if a person fasts on Ekadashi, “I will burn up all his sins. Indeed this day is the most meritorious day for destroying all kinds of sins.” In the three worlds, there is no kind of fasting, which is even comparable to the Ekadashi fast. Even if one performs this fast without a proper attitude, he achieves the Lords Supreme Abode. Anyone who fasts on Ekadashi, with full devotion, the merit one receives cannot be compared to anything else in the three worlds.

I have received many emails requesting me to compile an article on Ekadashi and its influence and importance with regards to Weddings, Katha and Jhunda, Durga Path, General Pujas, Deaths, Funerals and the like. We hope that this article will give clarity with regards to this Fasting day which until now was quite largely unheard of amongst us Hindu’s.

Lord Saturn (Shani-deva) and his effects

In all systems of astrology Saturn has played a role disproportionate to the fact that he is only one of nine planets. In India as in the west, Saturn (Shani in Sanskrit) has long been the bringer of doom. Naturally it is in ones best interest of every individual to prevent his own doom.

Ganesh Chaturthi
(The Appearance day Of Lord Ganesh)

SHREE GANESH VANDANA: -
Shuklam baratharam vishnum shashi varnam chaturbhujam prasanna vadanam dhyayet sarva vighnopa shantaye agajanana padmargam gajanana mahirsham aneka dantam bhaktanam eka dant am upasmahe
We meditate on Lord Ganesha - who is clad in white (representing purity), who is all pervading (present everywhere), whose complexion is grey like that of ash (glowing with spiritual splendor), who has four arms, who has bright countenance (depicting inner calm and happiness) and who can destroy all obstacles (in our spiritual and worldly path).

Go-daan (It’s Importance and Significance) |

Go means a cow and daan means gift. So Go-daan is the gifting of a cow to a Brahmin. This is an extremely important prayer that one performs in one’s life. Many people are under the impression that this prayer is only performed when one is about to pass on. This is a great misunderstanding. This prayer should be done when one is fit and in a healthy mind. For example I have performed many Go-daan prayers for children under 7 years old. How do you know that you will live till 60 or 70 years old? Of the last 8 funerals that I have performed 6 of the deceased were under 40 years and of that 6, 3 of the deceased was under 30 years old. There’s no guarantee on how long one will live.
