I have received many emails requesting me to compile an article on Ekadashi and its influence and importance with regards to Weddings, Katha and Jhunda, Durga Path, General Pujas, Deaths, Funerals and the like. We hope that this article will give clarity with regards to this Fasting day which until now was quite largely unheard of amongst us Hindu’s.

Annada Ekadashi 5th September...

ekadashi

On 5th September (Sunday) is

Annada Ekadashi

Please have your last grain meal on Saturday night.

The times to break your fast with grains is on Monday morning
Between 06h05 – 09h58 (Durban)

Fasting on Ekadashi (comes twice a month). One should not consume any grains or meat on this day. Lord Krishna says that if a person fasts on Ekadashi, “I will burn up all his sins. Indeed this day is the most meritorious day for destroying all kinds of sins.” In the three worlds, there is no kind of fasting, which is even comparable to the Ekadashi fast. Even if one performs this fast without a proper attitude, he achieves the Lords Supreme Abode. Anyone who fasts on Ekadashi, with full devotion, the merit one receives cannot be compared to anything else in the three worlds.

Narayan Bali Rites - Prayer for an unnatural death. PDF Print E-mail

As a priest I take the Hindu rituals pertaining to death very very seriously. Many people contact me asking to help them in various ways and the first thing I ask “Has any member of your family died in an unnatural way?” And when the answer is yes then I would immediately recommend that the Narayan Bali puja be performed. It really saddens me, that as the years are passing by the funerals that I perform the deceased are getting younger and younger. I perform so many suicides, car accidents and so forth funerals. It’s very sad for everyone concerned when a life is ended in this way.

Badaa Bandee Mochana (The Mother who liberates)

“She yonder, bending down, rich in rays, clothed in red hues is seen, advancing as one wonderful form, amid the ten surrounding arms” – Rig Veda VIII 101-13

Many have requested an English version of the Bandi Paath. This is an extremely popular prayer as you will read below why. This prayer is one of my favourite prayers as well... Ma Bandi is one of the most famous as well as merciful expansions of Mother Durga.

2010 Hindu calendar

namaste1

Many have asked us to compile an article on the Hindu calendar for example what are the Festivals dates, Ekadashi, Panchak, Rahu kalam and Eclipse?

Firstly the Festival dates are the dates that Hindu observes. This is quite self explanatory. For example for Shree Ganesh Chaturthi, we have a full explanation of this very important festival date on our website. Many ask what is this festival all about and how do we go about celebrating it ...hence this website is meant to make people from all cultures more aware of these important Hindu festival dates. We have included a few more festival dates below that are not generally on the typical Hindu calendar.
